What is Chinese Medicine and Medical Qigong?

 Chinese Medicine is a broad system of healing practices originating in China thousands of years ago. The system is based on the free flow of Qi, or vital energy, within the body’s energetic pathways, circulating to a network of organs. There are five therapies utilized in Chinese Medicine:

 

1) Acupuncture

2) Herbal Therapy

3) Bodywork

4) Dietary Therapy

5) Qigong

 

Moriah specializes in the use of Medical Qigong, which is similar to an acupuncture treatment, but without needles. Instead of using needles, acupressure (or acupuncture) points are held and/or brushed along the meridians of the body. Energy is moved and/or supported, releasing pain and stagnation in the body. The results are often deeper and longer lasting than a typical acupuncture session. Moriah focuses on offering relaxation sessions rather than sessions addressing specific health issues. She has found that the relaxation response elicits much deeper changes in the body than work that focuses on specific health problems.

 

How is your service different from a typical spa?

A traditional spa typically focuses only on the body’s outer layer, the skin and muscles. Austin Energy Spa focuses on both the body’s internal and external layers, resulting in a deeper level of relaxation. Also, when the internal layers of the body are activated, there are many health benefits that a traditional spa does not offer. Rather than using traditional massage strokes, Austin Energy Spa holds or presses acupressure points and performs light brushing on the body. Instead of using massage lotion, organic essential oils are applied to acupressure points to help relax and restore the body and mind.

 

Why should I have a Medical Qigong session?

Most people live hectic lives, sitting at a desk or running around 40+ hours a week. We need downtime to recharge our batteries, otherwise we end up exhausted and sick. Medical Qigong sessions offer a moment to replenish and nourish that which was lost. By taking the time to relax and restore, we are better prepared to handle life’s daily stresses. In addition, we are less likely to get sick, and over time health challenges will begin to resolve. Even if it is not Medical Qigong sessions, taking time out of the day to be still and relax, is always a great idea.

 

How should I prepare for a Qigong session?

Wear whatever clothing that you find comfortable. Avoid eating a large or heavy meal prior to a session if possible. Drink plenty of water before and after the session. Come prepared to relax and unwind!
